ATV and SUV Courses
These courses cover the following units from Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package. Particpants receive a Statement of Attainment on successful completion of the unit.
AHCMOM217 - Operate Quad Bikes
Duration 1 day. Cost is $585.00 per person (plus GST)
This course covers the process of maintaining and operating all terrain vehicles. ATV’s are now commonly used in the rural workplace and recent research conducted by the National Health and Safety Commission identified that using ATVs was a significant cause of farm related injuries and deaths.
On completion, participants should be able to apply basic skills and knowledge to safely utilise individual controls and features of all terrain vehicles, with or without attached equipment, and carry out basic maintenance procedures. Competency requires an awareness of duty of care to self, others and the environment.
* AHCMOM216 - Operate side by side utility vehicles
This course prepares students to prepare a side by side utility vehicle for use, to operate the vehicle in a variety of terrain types and conditions, and complete operations.
The course includes:
1. Preparing the vehicle for use, pre-operational checks including tyre pressure, oil, fuel and an overall visual check
2. Select and wear appropriate safety gear including approved helmets (PPE), and safety features are used correctly
3. Securing loads
4. Loading and unloading the vehicle
5. Familiarisation with the controls, starting, steering and braking.
6. Apply skills and check terrain, avoiding dangerous situations
7. Modify operations in adverse weather conditions.
8. Shut down vehicle and secure correctly.
9. Report any issues or damage.
To demonstrate competency students must satisfy all the criteria in this Unit, and demonstrate safe use and operation of the vehicle in various terrain types.
